Our library's user & print management system is: CASSIE
Cassie makes it easier for you, since there are no more Sign-In/Out
Sheets necessary... Just sit down at any Public-Access
computer displaying the "Cassie Cat" logo with a green "Available" box on the screen.
To log in, just enter your library card number and PIN (password) and you're ready to go...
The portion of your library card
number (shown above) is your Patron ID, and the default password (PIN) for the FIRST time you log in is your last name. For security reasons, you should change your password immediately after you log in the first time. To do this, click on the "My Account" button (located just above the Windows "Start" button). Please
bring your library card with you each & every time you come to the
library. If you forget your card, card number or PIN (password), we can
look it up for you at the circulation desk BUT you must
present proper photo ID first (this is done to protect your account
from being abused by anyone claiming to be "you"). Minors without photo
ID must bring a parent with their proper ID. IF a
parent or legal guardian has a different surname than the minor, they
should also bring adaquate documentation to prove their relationship to
the minor. All printing is now PRE-paid. You
will have to pay in advance at the circulation desk before Cassie will
allow any pages to go through to the printer. The good news is that you can now print beautiful COLOR laser prints from just about any public computer! You just pick which printer you want to use when you print from your application, either the B/W or COLOR Laser Printer. When you need to print, pay the library staff at the circulation desk
however much you would like deposited (credited) to your
account. Any remaining balance after you print is retained in your
account for you to use at a later date. Regular
B/W prints are 10 cents per page COLOR laser prints are only $1.00 per page B/W print jobs sent to the Color laser printer are 20 cents per page* You
may credit your account any amount of money you wish, so that you may
print out future documents without staff assistance. However, the
library is not responsible for “lost” funds (such as if
someone else obtains your password and uses your account and print
balance). You need to keep your password secure to prevent others from accessing your account and using up your print balance!!
Once you’ve printed from your application, use the “My Print List” button to manage your print jobs. (You must give CASSIE the go-ahead to print each document before your session ends, or the print jobs will be deleted.)
EXIT WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED! When
you are completely finished using the computer, it is vital that you
click the “Exit” button as you leave. This not only saves any remaining time you have left in the day for use later, it also keeps others from using up your pre-paid print balance!
When your time is completely used up, you will be automatically logged off. All users, regardless of log-in time, will be logged off 15 minutes before closing each day. CASSIE will always give you a warning message if you are about to run out of time.
If
you are working on an important project and need a little more time,
contact the library staff before your session ends to see if a time
extension is possible. *Printing B/W pages on the COLOR printer: We
use very high-quality paper in the color laser printer, and
if you would like to print a B/W page (or photo) on that printer to
take advantage of
the better paper, the B/W sheets only cost 20 cents each (instead of
$1.00). To do this, when you print select the COLOR Laser Printer and
click the "Properties" box, then set the "output color" to "Black."
When Cassie pops up the print dialog when you send your print job,
check to make sure that you are only being charged 20 cents per page.
(If it is otherwise, you should cancel that print job and try again,
making sure that you select the correct printer and output color
setting.)
Computer Policy:
It
is our policy to make our public-access computers
available to everyone on a fair and equal basis. Adults (18+) may use
our computers at any time by agreeing to our Computer and Internet use
policies. Minors who wish to use our internet-accessible computers must
be registered patorns of the McDonald County Library, and have
permission from their parent or legal guardian to use the Internet.
Our computers have internet pornographic content filtering enabled by default, as required by the Child Internet Protection Act
(CIPA). Internet filtering technology is imperfect, and can
occasionally result in "false-positive" blocking of legitimate
non-pornographic web sites. Therefore, adults (18+) can choose to have
filtering disabled for the duration of their session just for the
asking, but are reminded that viewing of pornographic material is not allowed at our library, and doing so will result in the loss of their computer use privlidges.
Full information about our Computer and Internet use policy is online.
Viewing of Pornography on library computers is not allowed:
The
Cassie system provides for a degree of remote monitoring. The
library staff can remotely pull up a "screenshot" of any public access
computer at any time a patron is logged on. Computer usage is checked
randomly and as warranted. If a patron is caught viewing pornography or
otherwise violating the library's Computer and Internet use policy
- they will be automatically logged off the computer (either with
or without warning), and their computer privledges may be revoked.
